The South Asian Centre for Teacher Development (SACTD)
The South Asian Centre for Teacher Development (SACTD), located in Meepe, Sri Lanka, is a UNESCO Category 2 Centre established by the Government of Sri Lanka under the auspices of UNESCO. As a regional hub for teacher and teacher-trainer development, SACTD supports UNESCO’s strategic priorities and contributes directly to Sustainable Development Goal 4 by promoting inclusive, equitable, and quality education across South Asia.
Guided by core values of responsiveness, innovation, cooperation, integrity, and respect for diversity, SACTD fosters excellence in teacher education while embracing change and collaboration. The Centre aims to serve as a regional Centre of Excellence, setting standards in teacher training, shaping future trends, and leading transformative change in education and human development.
Aligned with UNESCO’s partnership-driven approach, SACTD works collaboratively with governments, institutions, and stakeholders to build capacity, share knowledge, and strengthen education systems for sustainable development in the region.
