Mitsubishi Asian Children’s Enikki Festa

The Mitsubishi Asian Children’s Enikki Festa is a long-standing art and literacy initiative that invites children across Asia to share their lives and cultures through “Enikki”—illustrated diaries combining drawings and short writings. The programme was first launched in 1990 in support of international literacy goals and has since expanded to include participation from up to 24 countries and regions across the continent. Targeting children aged 6 to 12, the competition encourages entrants to creatively depict their daily experiences, traditions, family life, school activities, nature and local festivals under a unifying theme such as “My life that I want to share with anyone in Asia.” Selected works advance from national to international screening, with outstanding entries awarded at a biennial international awards ceremony in Japan. Beyond the contest, award-winning and other notable Enikki artworks are exhibited in Japan and abroad, helping promote intercultural understanding, empathy and respect among young people. The Festa reflects a unique blend of artistic expression and cultural exchange, fostering appreciation of diversity and connection among children throughout Asia.
