The World Philosophy Day Symposium 2025 was successfully held on 20 November at the University of Peradeniya. Organized by the Department of Philosophy in collaboration with the Sri Lanka National Commission for UNESCO, the event brought together scholars and students to foster philosophical dialogue in Sri Lanka.

This year’s symposium marked both a continuation of a valued tradition and an important step toward shaping a distinctly Sri Lankan philosophical discourse – one that draws from our roots, engages critically with contemporary reflections, and looks toward new horizons. Held under the theme “Towards a Sri Lankan Philosophy: Roots, Reflections, and Horizons,” the symposium examined the country’s rich intellectual heritage and its modern relevance, encouraging conversations that contribute to the development of a Sri Lankan philosophical identity.
