About UNESCO
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations, established in 1945 with the mandate to contribute to peace and security by promoting international cooperation in education, the sciences, culture, and communication and information.
UNESCO works to build inclusive and knowledge-based societies by advancing quality education for all, fostering scientific cooperation, safeguarding cultural and natural heritage, promoting cultural diversity, and strengthening freedom of expression and access to information. Its work is guided by the conviction that lasting peace must be founded upon intellectual and moral solidarity among peoples.
With 194 Member States and a global network of National Commissions, field offices, and specialized institutes, UNESCO supports countries in developing policies, setting international norms and standards, and implementing programmes that address global and national priorities in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
